We install and replace Lennox thermostats throughout Fresno, and a typical Lennox thermostat installation runs $180 – $420, parts and labor included. Most swaps take under an hour, and we keep common Lennox thermostat models on the truck so we can often handle the job same day when you call before noon. The way most Fresno homeowners find us is simple: the thermostat screen goes blank, the house won’t cool, or the temperature on the wall doesn’t match what the system is actually doing.
We’re an independent HVAC contractor, not affiliated with Lennox directly. That means we can install any Lennox thermostat you bring to us or order the exact model your system needs without a dealer markup. Devin Marlowe, our owner, has been working on Lennox equipment across the Central Valley for the better part of two decades, and he’ll be the first to tell you: a thermostat swap is one of the most straightforward fixes in residential HVAC, but only if the wiring and compatibility are checked first.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
Lennox uses two main thermostat families in residential systems installed over the last 15 years: the iComfort series (iComfort S30, E30, M30, and the older Wi-Fi models) and the more traditional ComfortSense series (3000, 5000, 7000, and 7500). Here’s the gotcha most homeowners don’t know: iComfort thermostats are communicating thermostats. They don’t use standard 24-volt wiring the way a Honeywell or Nest does. They talk digitally to the Lennox furnace or air handler through a four-wire RS485 connection. If you buy a non-communicating thermostat and try to wire it to an iComfort system, it simply won’t work without rewiring at the control board.
ComfortSense models are standard 24-volt thermostats and are far more forgiving. You can swap a failed ComfortSense 3000 for a quality universal thermostat without any drama, though you’ll lose some Lennox-specific features like staged heating control or humidity readouts. Our advice: if your system uses iComfort, stick with an iComfort replacement. If it uses ComfortSense, you have options. We’ll check the wiring at the wall and at the board before we recommend anything.

Signs Your Lennox Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Blank display or intermittent flicker. This often points to a failed internal power supply or, on iComfort models, a break in the four-wire communication line. We see this regularly in older Fresno homes where attic heat degrades wiring over time.
- System short-cycles or runs constantly. When the thermostat’s temperature sensor drifts out of calibration, the unit can’t hold a setpoint. You’ll hear the condenser kick on and off every few minutes, which is hard on the compressor and spikes your energy bill.
- Display reads room temperature wrong by 3+ degrees. A dirty or failing thermistor (the tiny sensor behind the display) gives false readings. If your hallway is 80 but the thermostat thinks it’s 74, the AC won’t run when it should.
- Buttons or touchscreen stop responding. On iComfort S30 and E30 units, a failed digitizer or a software lockup can freeze the screen. Sometimes a restart fixes it; sometimes the board is done. We carry replacements for the most common failures.
- The system won’t respond to temperature changes at all. If you adjust the setpoint and nothing happens, you may have lost the signal between the thermostat and the control board. That’s a wiring fault or a failed relay, and it’s not something to ignore during a Fresno July.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Fresno homeowners, a Lennox thermostat installation lands between $180 and $420 installed. Here’s what drives the spread:
- Entry-level universal thermostat: $40 – $90 for the part, $140 – $180 for labor and wiring check. Total around $180 – $270.
- ComfortSense or mid-range smart thermostat: $120 – $200 for the part, same labor. Total around $260 – $380.
- iComfort S30 or E30 communicating thermostat: $250 – $400 for the part alone, depending on the model and whether you need a new wiring harness. Total can reach $420 – $550 if we have to run new wire.
Every quote is a written price before we start. No surprises, no “while we were in there” additions. The labor is guaranteed for 365 days under our Done Right Promise; if the installation fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. The thermostat itself carries its own manufacturer warranty, which we’ll register for you.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a thermostat involves low voltage, not line voltage, so it’s not an electrocution hazard. But low voltage doesn’t mean no risk. The biggest DIY mistake we clean up in Fresno is a homeowner buying a Nest or Ecobee, wiring it wrong, blowing a fuse on the control board, and then paying us more to undo the damage than the thermostat cost in the first place. If your system uses iComfort communicating wiring, we strongly recommend against a self-install. One wrong wire and you can fry a $400 board.
If you’re comfortable checking three things, start here: confirm the breaker to the air handler is on, check that the thermostat is seated properly on its base plate, and verify the model number on the back of the unit before ordering anything. If any of that feels uncertain, call us at (559) 354-6878. We’ll check the wiring, match the right thermostat to your Lennox system, and give you a written price before any work begins. Tell you what it needs, tell you what it costs, get it done right.
FAQs
Most Lennox thermostats last 8 to 12 years in Fresno before the temperature sensor drifts or the display starts failing. Attic heat and summer run-times can shorten that on older ComfortSense models, but a well-ventilated hallway installation usually stretches the lifespan.
Rarely. The two repairable failures we see are a bent base-plate pin and a blown fuse on the control board, both of which are quick fixes. Failed sensors, dead screens, and communication board faults aren’t worth rebuilding; replacement is cheaper and more reliable.
A standard Lennox thermostat installation takes 45 to 75 minutes on site. That includes removing the old unit, checking the wiring at both ends, installing the new thermostat, programming it, and doing a full heat and cool cycle test before we leave.
Yes. We carry universal thermostats, ComfortSense replacements, and the most common iComfort S30 and E30 models on our trucks for same-day installation. If your system needs something we don’t have on board, we can typically have it in hand within one to two business days and schedule the install at a firm time.
