Lennox Mini-Split Installation: The Fresno Owner’s Guide

A Lennox mini-split installation in Fresno typically runs $3,500 – $7,500 installed, depending on the number of zones and the specific Lennox model. Most single-zone systems on the smaller end of that range, and multi-zone setups with three or four indoor heads land higher. We stock Lennox-compatible mini-split components and can usually schedule installation within a few days, not weeks.

Most Fresno homeowners call us after the existing system has already told them something’s wrong. A Lennox unit that short-cycles on a 105-degree afternoon, an indoor head that drips water down the wall, or a compressor that hums but never fully starts. The good news is that Lennox mini-splits are serviceable, and a proper installation paired with the right parts usually brings them back to full output. Devin Marlowe has been turning wrenches on residential and light-commercial systems across the Central Valley for the better part of two decades, and he still opens every job the same way: figure out what the system actually needs, put the price in writing, and get it done right.

Which Lennox Models This Applies To

This covers the Lennox mini-split lines you’ll actually find in Fresno homes: the MLA and MLD single-zone series, the MLA/MPB multi-zone heat pump systems, and the newer MLA Mini-Split heat pumps that pair with wall-mounted, ceiling-cassette, and floor-console indoor units. If your outdoor unit has a Lennox model number starting with MLA, MLD, or MPB, this page applies. The model plate is on the side of the outdoor unit, usually near the electrical connections.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people don’t know: Lennox mini-split indoor and outdoor units are matched pairs. You can’t simply swap an indoor head from one series onto an outdoor unit from another, even within the Lennox family. The refrigerant charge, the communication wiring, and the expansion valve calibration are all set for the specific pairing. This is also why we’re cautious about “universal” aftermarket parts on Lennox systems. Some quality aftermarket equivalents exist for things like fan motors and capacitors, but for control boards, inverter drives, and thermistors, we stock Lennox OEM parts. The OEM part matches the unit’s original engineering spec. When the part doesn’t match, the system works harder than it should, and in a Fresno summer, that shows up fast on the utility bill.

Brandt HVAC Co Fresno is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Lennox, but we service and install Lennox equipment daily, along with Carrier and Trane, and we keep the most common Lennox mini-split parts on our trucks.

Signs Your Lennox Mini-Split Installation Is Failing

  • Indoor head runs but blows warm air. On a 100-degree Fresno day, this is usually low refrigerant or a failing inverter compressor. If the system was installed correctly, low refrigerant means a leak, and leaks need to be found and fixed, not just topped off.
  • The outdoor unit stops and starts every few minutes. Short-cycling like this often points to a failing capacitor, a refrigerant pressure issue, or a control board that’s misreading temperatures. Left alone, it shortens compressor life, and compressors are the most expensive part to replace.
  • Water dripping from the indoor head. A clogged condensate line or a failing drain pump. In the San Joaquin Valley’s dusty air, drain lines plug faster than most homeowners expect. Simple fix, but water running down drywall is not one to ignore.
  • The system makes a rattling or grinding noise. Worn fan motor bearings or debris in the blower wheel. Ignoring it usually turns a $200 motor swap into a cracked blower wheel or damaged housing.
  • The unit runs constantly but never hits the set temperature. That’s often a failing thermistor sending bad temperature readings to the control board, or a system that was undersized from the start. Fresno summers punish undersized systems mercilessly.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Full Lennox mini-split installation in Fresno runs $3,500 – $7,500 installed. On the low end, a single-zone 9,000 or 12,000 BTU wall-mounted system for a bedroom or a converted garage. On the high end, a multi-zone system with three or four indoor heads, a ceiling cassette, or a floor console running off one outdoor unit. The range is driven by the number of zones, the line-set distance between the outdoor unit and the indoor heads, and whether the existing electrical panel has room for the dedicated circuit a mini-split requires.

Every install we quote includes the equipment, the line set, the electrical hookup, the pad or wall bracket, and a written price before any work starts. No surprises, no “we found more once we got into it” pricing. You’ll see the part cost and the labor cost on the same page before anyone picks up a tool. When a repair makes more sense than a full replacement, most Lennox mini-split repairs run $150 – $650, parts and labor included. We’ll tell you which path is the honest one for your system and your budget.

DIY or Call Us?

There are exactly three things we’re comfortable telling a homeowner to check on their own. First, that the thermostat is set correctly and the mode matches the season. Second, that the outdoor unit isn’t covered in leaves, cottonwood fuzz, or the fine dust that blows through the Central Valley. Third, that no breakers have tripped at the panel. Beyond that, mini-splits are not DIY-friendly systems.

The electrical work on a mini-split installation requires a dedicated breaker and a disconnect at the unit. The refrigerant lines need to be brazed, pressure-tested, and vacuumed before the system can be charged. The refrigerant itself is regulated and requires licensing to handle. And the sensors and inverter boards in a Lennox mini-split are sensitive, high-voltage components that can hurt you and destroy the system in the same instant. This is one of those jobs where a good technician earns the labor charge, and a wrong guess costs more than the service call would have. If your Lennox system is misbehaving, call us at (559) 354-6878. We’ll tell you what it needs, tell you what it costs, and get it done right.
